Orchard Treasures — Original Oil Painting
10 × 8 inches, Oil on Canvas
I painted Orchard Treasures after visiting the Crocker Art Museum and spending time with Dutch still lifes. What struck me was their clarity — how fruit, leaves, and stems are allowed to exist without explanation or symbolism, simply placed and carefully seen.
The plums in this painting are not arranged to impress. I was interested in their density, the way darker forms hold light differently, and how small imperfections — stems, leaves, the bloom on the skin — give the fruit a sense of presence and weight. The wooden surface and fallen elements anchor the composition and keep it grounded.
This work reflects my interest in still life as a discipline of looking — learning from historical painting not by imitation, but by slowing down and applying the same seriousness to ordinary things.
This is an original work. Framed and ready to hang.
