Velvet Dance — Original Oil Painting
11 × 14 inches, oil on wood panel
Roses never stop inspiring me. Their shape, color, and those soft, elusive transitions feel like tiny miracles to capture in oil. For this piece, I worked in the classical Old Master tradition, beginning with a careful grisaille underpainting to establish light and shadow. Only when the structure felt true did I begin building color slowly through thin glazes.
This layered approach gives the petals their gentle luminosity—the sense that they almost hold light within them. Every curve and fold was shaped patiently, one veil of paint at a time, until the flower felt alive, touchable, and quietly glowing.
The painting is created on a solid wood panel using high-quality oil paints. I love the stability and smoothness of the surface; it allows the smallest details to come forward with clarity and depth.
